Wen-Chih Chen (陳文智) is the Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (formerly National Chiao Tung University), Taiwan. Dr. Chen’s research focus is analysis, modeling and optimization of complex systems with emphasis on integrating economics, data analytics, mathematics and computing techniques. His research has appeared in IIE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operations Research and International Journal of Production Research. He received Outstanding Young Scholar Grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan from 2012 to 2018. In the late 1990’s, he was the primary developer of the web-based benchmarking tool for warehouse operational performance (iDEAs-W) at Georgia Institute of Technology. iDEAs-W was invited to exhibit in a number of material handling trade shows, and featured in a number of industry and academic publications. Dr. Chen’s current research interests include data-driven optimization, on-line learning, productivity and efficiency analysis and efficiency computation, with applications in production and operations management and supply chain and logistics management.

Dr. Chen obtained his BS degree in Industrial Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and both his PhD and MSc degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His PhD thesis,  “Integrating approaches to efficiency and productivity measurement”, received the 3rd place of the 2004 IIE Pritsker Doctoral Dissertation Award.
